Cultural Trust Historic Preservation Grants
Grant Award:
$50,000 (2009)
Grant Recipient:
Historic Morven, Inc.
Moreven was the 18th century home of Richard Stockton, a signer of the Declaration of Independence.  Morven has a complex and unusual history with additions and outbuildings on the property dating from the 18th, 19th and 20th centuries.  The pool house reflects the property's more recent history and significance.  From 1945 through 1982, Morven served as the state's governor's mansion.  During the 1950s the house was documented as a "trend setting" property with 1950s amenities and furniture set within 18th century and early 19th century interiors as well as colonial revival gardens surrounding the house.  The State leased the property to Historic Morven after the governor's residence moved to another property in Princeton.  Historic Morven operates the house and gardens as a museum.  The main house was restored during the late 1990s.

The current grant will help fund the restoration and interpretation of the pool house.
