The nail mill office is the last building associated with the Cumberland Nail and Iron Works, a substantial local manufacturing company, which was in operation from 1815 to 1899. The office is at the entrance to Bridgeton City Park, whose 1,100 acres were purchased by the city from the Nail Works for recreational use.  The resource is representative of Bridgeton’s industrial manufacturing history. For most of the 20th century, the mill office was used to house a collection of artifacts stewarded by the Antiquarian League.

The 2017 Trust grant to the Center for Historic American Building Arts helped fund structural improvements and stabilization along with a new HVAC system, chimney liner, and site work. The 2009 Trust grant to the City of Bridgeton helped fund the preparation of a preservation plan that guided restoration and rehabilitation of the modest building as a visitor’s center or museum that explores Bridgeton’s industrial history.
