This English Georgian Revival structure was built in 1926 as a gathering place for Newark's business leaders. Designed by the Newark firm of Guilbert and Betelle, this building exemplifies the high quality of early twentieth century commercial and civic architecture. Presiding over Military Park in Newark and adjacent to the New Jersey Performing Arts Center, the club is a testament to the social status of Newark's most successful entrepreneurs.

The Trust grant helped fund the conversion of the club into the new headquarters of the New Jersey Historical Society. The street facade and interior finishes in the principal spaces were restored, and new fire and life safety systems were installed. A library, a museum, classrooms, and new offices were created as part of the funded work.
