Long Pond Ironworks Historic District contains thirteen residential and commercial buildings and the remains of three iron blast furnaces. During the 18th and 19th centuries, the area was a center for iron production. The ironworks is unique for its industrial-based community surviving largely intact and now preserved as a park. The Friends of Long Pond Ironworks is a nonprofit volunteer organization dedicated to the preservation, restoration and interpretation of the park.
The current Trust grant will support the creation of a site management plan, including a conditions assessment, a preservation plan, and a phased plan for stabilization and restoration of the historic structures. The 1992 grant funded the rehabilitation of the country store as a visitor's orientation center as well as the stabilization of other structures on the site, including two double stone houses, furnace ruins, water wheels and a wheel pit.
