Paulsdale is a National Historic Landmark, significant as the home of renowned suffragist Alice Stokes Paul (1885-1977). The farmstead consists of the pre-1849 Greek Revival style dwelling house and the nineteenth-century icehouse, located on a six-acre tract of land that retains much of its period plantings. Alice Paul returned frequently to her family home during her long and often controversial career as an activist for women's rights. The house remains largely intact, having only minor interior changes.

The Alice Paul Institute initiated the purchase of the property in 1990. The Institute's goal is to preserve Paulsdale as a tribute to Alice Paul and to establish an educational facility to provide leadership training for girls and young women.

The first grant helped fund exterior repairs and preservation. The 2002 grant helped fund phase two of the restoration of the house including reconstruction of the wrap-around porch. The 2010 grant helped fund a signage program to support a new self-directed tour program. The 2019 grant helped fund an update to a 1999 Historic Structures Report. The 2021 grant will help fund interior repainting and repairs to floors, plaster, doors, and stairs; roof repairs and chimney repointing; window repair; porch, siding, and stucco repair; driveway replacement; regrading; and exterior lighting.
