Historic Site Management Grant
Grant Award: $20,502.40 (2001); $29,021 (2007); $34,500 (2012) Grant Recipient: Perkins Center for the Arts County: BurlingtonMunicipality: Moorestown
The property has a long history associated with the Perkins family, who founded Fairview Nurseries on this site in 1815. The Tudor style home was built in 1910 as a wedding gift for Alice and Dudley Perkins, and the Arts and Crafts style carriage house was completed in the 1930's. The property was given to the municipality in 1966, and the Arts Center was established in 1977 to occupy the five-acre property and serve the community as a cultural and historic resource.
The applicant is in need of a long term plan for the site that incorporates the goals to preserve the historic and natural environments. The 2012 Trust grant will help fund the development of a preservation plan and National Register nomination ammendment that will include the carriage house.
A 2007 grant helped fund signage and site interpretation for the arboretum and the development of walking tours of the historic district. A previous Trust grant helped fund design documents to address barrier-free access.
