Grant Award:
$280,707 (2006)
Grant Recipient:
United Synagogue of Hoboken
Built for the Congregation Kochov Israel in 1915, designed by Hoboken architect Max J. Beyer, this is the only synagogue in use in Hoboken. The building exemplifies traditional European 19th century synagogue architecture with eastern architectural details, copper onion domes, and stained glass windows with colorful scrollwork. The synagogue is now used by the United Synagogue of Hoboken, organized in 1947.

The Trust grant helped fund exterior restoration, including replacement of the roof, restoration of the onion domes, masonry repointing and site improvements. Separate from the Trust-funded project, the congregation also restored the sanctuary interior, wood details and painted murals.
